Can't afford to take the bus

"It might be cheaper to drive then to take the bus."

That was the first thought I had boarding the bus this morning. With the Transit price getting more expensive every year, I might soon not be able to afford to ride the bus. It cost me $8 for a 2 zone round trip. $8! That is expensive! I can still remember the good old days when it only cost me $1.75 to ride the bus. Now it cost me $4 just to get somewhere. Wasn't taking the bus suppose to be the "affordable" to get anywhere? With each Transit increase every year I won't be able to ride the buses any longer. The minimal wage in BC is $10.25, that would mean that you basically would have to work 1 hour just to be able to get to work. At prices like this who can really afford to take the bus? I own a car and if I had put the $8 towards gas it would have been cheaper for me to get somewhere. That is pretty ridiculous when I think that owning a car might be cheaper then taking the bus. The increase in price was so little every year (10%), that I really didn't notice. I really didn't know how much I was really spending on bus fare until I really think about it (I use to ride the bus daily to work). I really can't believe how much it cost to take the bus nowadays. $8!

I know, right!? When I lived in Toronto I had an internship for a spell, so I had to take the subway everyday to and from the hospital. I was shocked when I saw the price for the monthly pass. It's crazy, even with a student discount.

That's sad the price increases, public transport in London is expensive as well, xoxo.

Wow it's pretty crazy how expensive the bus prices are!
I have to agree with you, driving is cheaper especially if you are driving a fuel efficient vehicle.

That's so expensive for a bus ride! In Seattle (the last place I lived that had good public transportation), depending on where you were going, a lot of the buses were free--if you were in a certain area. Then, you only had to pay $.75-$1.75 depending on how far you're going out!

Mass transit is expensive here in NJ. It costs me $22 round trip to get into NYC. It's no wonder our traffic is so bad. No one can afford to take the train!

I was amazed at the first time I took a bus after a long break. I would have walked had I known the expense. Thank you for coming to follow via the GFC Resolutions in Motion hop. We both appear to like ranting and books. Nice to meet you.
